ABOUT ME
Hello reader! I am Bet Milner, a British writer currently somewhere at the end of my thirties, and living in Brazil with my son and partner.
Despite writing for a living, I struggle to write biographies and blurbs about myself. It's a curse!

The fact is, I don't find myself particularly interesting, which is probably why I make up so many stories about people who don't exist. My best friends are characters I've never met. My greatest joy in life is disappearing between the pages of a wonderful story and imagining all the fantastical things that could happen. I struggle to stay in the real world most days, and my social media accounts are a shining example of how awful I am at being sociable.

I say this half-truthfully and with a large pinch of salt.

Bet Milner is crap at these things. Bet is just one of my many alter-egos. Spoken like a true superhero, but sadly not a superhero!

So, what can I tell you that will be at least in part, the truth?

I'm a mother of one, a wife, (second time around), and a full-time writer who doesn't quite make a living out of doing what she loves! I'm all for manifesting, positive vibes, and "the secret", but cold, hard cash has never been high on my priority list.
I enjoy the hippy lifestyle, or wartime British mend and make do approach to everything. I knit, crochet, repair and sew things, and upcycle the crap out of pretty much everything I can salvage. I have chickens, they give me eggs in return for food, love, and random conversations I'm still trying to translate.

On that topic, I am also a translator of Brazilian Portuguese. Previous jobs include being an English language teacher for fourteen years, and a couple of other boring things involving banks, franchises, and such nonsense.

My day job is this, also music. That sounds glamorous, doesn't it? It's not. I write songs and do all the boring paperwork of registering them with the SEVEN required institutes needed to actually get any royalties from. I compose, record, sing, and try to produce and manage a band, and four other solo projects. I play guitar pretty badly, keyboard as well as a person who has had a total of six lessons in their life can, and I cannot mix for shit! But it doesn't stop me, and for some bizarre reason, the band has a tiny little cult following and that is currently what pays my bills. Rock on dudes!

As you can see, I say Bet Milner is not social, but I'm far from shy or introverted. I have my moments of being completely incapable of talking to anyone and hiding in my head for however long I deem fit, but I can also get up on stage, belt out some angry rock, and ham it up to the cameras when they are pointed my way.
The truth is, it's hard work being a full-time creator, especially with so many projects on the go. Now and then, one slips and doesn't get as much attention as it deserves. That's not to say that I don't take my crafts seriously, but it's like kids, isn't it? You can't pick favorites. Writing and creating are my passions, whether it be music, poetry, or novels, each serves a very specific purpose in my journey at that specific moment in "time."

I write sapphic books mostly in the LGBTQIA+ categories. I started writing fiction when I was very young but struggled to finish a novel before 2017. I delved into the world of fan fiction, and that is when I found my confidence in writing an entire book. I've since written nine more and will publish my fifth this year.

I like telling stories about strong, complicated women, usually from a bisexual/queer point of view, which is the label I most identify with personally. My favorite genres to write in are paranormal and fantasy, though I have yet to publish those titles. I like a bit of comic relief also, and those romantic comedies are the ones that tend to get ready for publishing first.
I chose to self-publish because as a musician, I've spent most of my life being rejected, putting myself fully on show and asking to be judged daily. I didn't want that for writing. That's not why I do it, and I didn't want to lose the joy of writing mostly for myself. This is my thing, my personal me time, and as happy as I am when people enjoy my books, that's just a bonus.
